Who is Tanzania…

A proud Oakland resident, a Washington, DC native, and an intentional advocate for creating positive spaces for those in proximity. Raised by a single mother of three, I witnessed firsthand the struggles families endure and the resilience it takes to rise above them. As a middle child, I learned the power of perseverance, determination, and the importance of standing up for those in need.

For eleven years, I embraced the challenges of single motherhood as a boy-mom while building a career as a contractor for the Federal government. Every sacrifice I made only strengthened my determination to not become a product of my environment. Today, I am blessed to share my life with my husband, and two beautiful children. Together, we remain steadfast in our commitment to making Oakland a better place to call home.

My professional journey has been defined by service, integrity, and a dedication to strengthening our institutions. I have proudly served as a Lead Supervisor for the Department of State, Program Management Support Specialist for the National Nuclear Security Administration, as well as an Operational Support Specialist for the Department of Defense. Additionally, my work as a Records Examiner and Management Analyst at the Federal Bureau of Investigations, has reinforced my commitment to public safety, accountability, and effective governance.

Moving to California was a leap of faith—one that required stepping out of my comfort zone in the healthcare sector while making personal sacrifices to provide a better life for my family. These experiences deepened my understanding of how policy and innovation intersect to create real change. I am also a student of Peralta Community College District, majoring in Political Science. My education fuels my passion for governance, policy, and the transformative power of strong leadership. I believe in action, accountability, and innovative solutions that truly serve the people.

Beyond my government experience, I have worked with individuals with disabilities in all spectrums- helping to empower and reintegrate them back into society and equipping them with essential life skills for independent living. This work cemented my belief that everyone deserves a chance to succeed, regardless of their circumstances.

As a mother, my fight for Oakland’s future is deeply personal. I have a three year old daughter, preparing for Kindergarten and a 14 year old son, in high school- both attending Oakland Unified School District (OUSD). I know the challenges our schools face, the concerns of parents, and the urgency of investing in our children’s education and safety. The choices we make today will shape the future they inherit.
